Xplornet is looking for an individual to help evolve and scale the Core Traffic Management System, delivering increased value to our end customers (Remote Position). As part of the Core Network Engineering team, the Senior IP Network Designer will be responsible for the architectural evolution, design and upkeep of Xplornet’s Core Traffic Management network and underlying services.

Key responsibilities include:

• Architect and implement a best in class Core Traffic Management network with focus on maximizing performance for our customers and minimizing operational cost
• Work with Product Marketing, other internal teams and vendors to determine traffic management requirements
• Research new architectures, technologies, vendors and features
• Create and execute detailed lab test plans for new architectures, technologies, and features
• Perform regular Core Traffic Management capacity trending and forecasting analysis as well as optimization to achieve optimal network performance
• Manage and deploy DPI use cases for new platforms and business/product requirements
• Ensure designs are accurately documented (specifications, drawings, configurations, MOPs) and tested allowing for successful implementation by the IP Operations team
• Work with colocation partners and Field Service team to create facilities specifications for new equipment installations and upgrades
• Maintain current product lifecycle (HW/SW)
• Create documentation and provide training on the architecture, operations and troubleshooting of Xplornet’s Traffic Management network architecture
• Prepare and deliver presentations for internal and external stake holders
• Provide third level problem escalation support (on-call required)

The ideal candidate will possess:

• Engineering Degree (Electrical or Computer Science) is preferred
• Minimum 8 years of Core Traffic Management network design experience in a service provider environment
• In-depth knowledge in DPI policies and end to end provisioning flows by platform
• In-depth knowledge of IP/Ethernet Quality of Service features such as classification, marking, queueing and shaping
• Strong understanding of Internet technologies and protocols (i.e. FTP, SHH, SMTP, etc.), firewalls, traffic shapers, and proxies
• Excellent and proven knowledge of network/routing protocols (i.e. BGP, OSPF, TCP/IP, etc.)
• Strong understanding of core network architectures with a solid understanding of the technical and budgetary implications and trade-offs associated with design decisions made at all network layers
• Knowledge of WAN technologies (i.e. VPN, Frame, etc.) and basic understanding of RF and Satellite technologies
• Experience in RFI / RFP process for new vendor / technology selection and ongoing vendor management
• Knowledge of typical Service Provider service offerings
• Knowledge of core networking equipment from vendors such as Sandvine, Cisco, Ciena, and Nokia
• Experience in mobility/LTE/5G core technologies would be an asset
• Good written and verbal English communication
• Attention to detail ensuring accurate network documentation and written standards are created for use by Network peers
• Good analytical, decision making and organizational skills
• Proven ability to break down barriers and foster collaboration across functions and teams
• Willingness to challenge the status quo looking for new and innovative solutions to engineering problems
• Willingness to undertake occasional travel
